The College of Tourism and Hospitality Management (THM) is finalizing preparations for the upcoming Second CCP Cookfest, scheduled to be held in February, 2012. The theme will be "Fun With Fresh Spring Rolls".
According to Dean Danny A. Cabulay of the College of Business Administration, Tourism and Hospitality Management, the organizing committee is expecting up to 60 high schools located within Metro Manila and suburbs to take part in this special event.
Each participating high school can field one team of up to three students and one teacher-coach. Each team, in turn, will be required to develop their creative version of the classic Sariwang Lumpia (or Lumpiang Hubad) and then execute and cook on-the-spot and present their entry for judging within a one-hour period.
Working and presentation tables will be made available, but the participants must bring their own utensils, cooking equipment and ingredients. Electricity will be provided.
"The CCP Cookfest is open to all high school students," explains Dean Cabulay. "It aims to promote Filipino cuisine and discover your culinarians. It also seeks to network and foster active relationships with high schools around the National Capital Region with the view of helping to develop employable skills and the entrepreneurial spirit among the youth, specifically those in high school preparing to enter college."
In line with the objectives of the Central Colleges of the Philippines, Cabulay adds, "With this activity, we hope to spark greater interest in tourism, hospitality management and the culinary arts for those who are interested in a future career in these fields."
Prizes being lined up for the winners of the cookfest include medals and trophies, cash prizes, college scholarship vouchers, and culinary laboratory equipment for the winning schools, among others. Furthermore, the winning entries will be featured in culinary magazines and the popular media.
